Laveta Poole, aka Big Honey, has always been a woman who lived her life by her own rules and sometimes living life close to the edge. Good reading. I was able to relate to the subject matter, esp. about the breast cancer in the family and some of the relationship issues between the sisters. Author put it together very well. I still didn't get the answer to "what really made Dasie tick"...but then I suppose that's life,,you never get all the answers.I recommend it to other individuals and book clubs.

Karen Brown's 2nd novel Waiting is about "down home" folk living life in any small southern town. She has the ability to transcend the reader into the lives of relatable, likable characters. Waiting entangles the reader into the web of it's main characters love for family, deceitfulness that comes from covetousness and primal fear that's initiated when health is compromised by the diagnosis of that one word dreaded disease. Waiting is a comfortable, enjoyable novel that will have readers reflect upon their own "down home" blues life experiences!
When I read the preview, I expected a mystery involving a woman whose husband and daughter disappeared. While that did happen, it's at the end of the book, so the title is a bit misleading. But, Waiting is a good easy read centering on drama in a small town. The characters are unique, several with stories of their own. The 3 rating is due more to my thinking this was a mystery. I recommend this book as Ms. Brown captures small town living in Topwater and places the reader smack in the middle of these characters lives, loves and lessons.
Karen Brown has a way of developing the characters and bringing them to life through their stories of life, love and loss in the small southern town of Topwater. She touches on so many life events that most go through, which makes it easy to relate to each person. Waiting is a great read that lead to a great discussion by our book club.
